Mosaic Classes on Cape Cod

An email for one of my many satisfied students.
Hi Jim,
I never even said thanks last night for the great instructional series, but I had a great time learning something new. I'm looking forward to the September series. Thanks for all you help and patience. Your mosaic on display at the Guild is amazing. Can't wait to start the new series .
MOSAIC CLASSES
Jim Bowen has been teaching mosaics since 2000 for visual artists at the college level and in private workshops and classes. He founded the mosaic course at Cape Cod Community College and continues to teach there. Now he offers you the opportunity to learn from the first master mosaic artist on Cape Cod with the same techniques that he teaches his college level students.
Take a mosaic class and learn from the leading mosaic artist on Cape Cod. Jim Bowen will guide you through the process of creating a mosaic that you can give as a gift or keep for yourself.
Classes will be held at the new Falmouth Artist Guild www.falmouthart.org building on Cape Cod which offers a cheery space to work on your project in a friendly, fun and relaxed atmosphere. The classes are for teens and adults with little or no experience. Even if you can't draw- and most people can't- we have the knowledge to help you create a design of your own to mosaic or you can use one of Jim's templates of various designs.
During our introductory class a brief history of mosaic art. A variety of mosaic techniques and materials will be explored including glass, tile and broken china, known as Piqueassiette. To start, we will use glass as a medium. You will learn to cut, shape and grind the colorful glass into tesserae, the name of the units of glass that become a mosaic. Students will learn which adhesive to use and how to grout a final piece, being aware of the use of how color can enhance or detract from a piece.
The classes include 2 1/2 hours of instruction and work time and the use of tools. There is a small project fee, approx. $15.00 for a 1 square foot wall hanging, to cover the cost of materials. The fee for larger projects will be prorated according to size. There will be blank mirror boards and larger size boards to work on, or bring your own object that you would like to cover.
